Rain, Rain, and… Gators?

If it feels like all we’ve had lately is rain—you’re not wrong. The pasture is squishy, the mosquitoes are thriving, and our boots haven’t dried in days. While we’re still waiting for our calves to make their grand entrance, someone else has already shown up in our wetlands…

Say hello to our 10-foot guest!

Even alligators need a getaway sometimes... we just hope he doesn't ask us to plan it!

When It Rains on Your Vacation...

Rain doesn't have to ruin a trip. In fact, some of our favorite travel memories were made when plans changed. For those of you who knew me growing up, you might remember our RV, "The African Queen." I still remember the time we broke down in the middle of Alligator Alley (I-75 between Naples and Fort Lauderdale). Back then, there were no cell phones, no Road Rangers, no fences keeping the critters out of the 2-lane thoroughfare. So, we played frisbee in the street, and sat in our lounge chairs on the roadside until help came - nearly 7 hours of this! It is, to this day, one of my fondest memories.

Here are a few ideas for turning bad weather into good stories:

  • Switch gears: Museum day, local spa, or food tour? Perfect for a soggy day.

  • Pack smart: A light raincoat and waterproof shoes go a long way, especially if they are Gore-Tex (travel tip!)

  • Stay flexible: Sometimes the best moments come when you're not rushing to keep a schedule. We recommend packing in time for just doing nothing, watching, listening, and resting.

  • Embrace the mood: Ever seen Venice in the rain? Pure magic. We have a group of 3 couples going to Venice very soon - enjoy Wendy, Chris, Dare, Gregg, Sandy, and Richard!

  • New Passport Renewal Pilot: The State Department is testing an online passport renewal system.

And, a dear client, childhood best friend of my sister, Debbie, who passed some time ago, is traveling soon too. We just reviewed the United Kingdom's Travel Authorization policy. Here's what you need to know:

Traveling to the UK? Read This First

Travelers will need to apply for a UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before entering the United Kingdom—even if they don’t need a visa.

It’s quick, easy, and mandatory for things like tourism, visiting family, business trips, or short-term study. This is part of a new digital border system, and here is where you can apply.

Planning a UK trip? Let us know—we can help you check if you need an ETA
